Process Consulting sounds expensive and with the potential to consume a lot of my team's time?: Not at all. Dependant on your need we have ways of keeping the interaction with your team and your time down to a minimum, whilst still getting the information we need. As with all of our SAM and LCS engagements we would typically charge this work on a fixed fee basis, rather than a time and materials basis, which would place the ownership on us to complete the work in timely fashion.
Do I really need an effective SAM programme – what are the tangible benefits of software asset management?: Put simply – eliminating wastage of software assets. Consider a physical asset in your estate such as a vehicle from a fleet, or a piece of equipment from a manufacturing centre. Your finance team will have very specific finance processes for amortising the deprecation of this asset over the term of its lifecycle, at the end of which will be another specific set of retirement processes for maximising any residual value retained in the asset back to your organisation. If a staff member leaves you simply don’t take their company car to the scrapyard? Yet very often this is exactly what is happening with software. Implementing a SAM Programme will eliminate this wastage along with a host of other commercial benefits.
